Outdoor & Adventure
COUGAR PARK
Cougar Mountain Bike Park offers 35km of Grade 3-5 off-road forest tracks. The park hosts 14 different tracks, which cater for a wide range of riders from beginners and intermediate to advanced mountain bikers. For learner riders, the park offers hand-cut trails that have nice flow and plenty of exits along the trail.
WAIKATO RIVER TRAILS
The Waikato River Trails follow New Zealand’s longest river through native bush, exotic forest, remote farmland, boardwalks, streams and suspension bridges.
FIVE WAIKATO RIVER TRAILS SECTIONS
Experience the unseen…The trails cover about 105km of previously inaccessible Southern Waikato land. They wind their way along a path that encompasses the magic and beauty of New Zealand native bush, exotic forest, historic landmarks, interesting rock formations and geological delights. Be inspired as you walk, run or cycle through grassed farmland, open reserves, boardwalks over significant wetlands, and expansive lake and river views.
BLUE SPRING – Te Waihou Walkway
This award-winning trail is located off Whites Road near Putāruru or from Leslie Road (off White’s Road). A stunning and popular trail built with the support of local landowners, Te Waihou Walkway covers a distance of 4.7km with an average walking time of one and a half hours (or three hours) return).
JIM BARNETT RESERVE
Thirteen different tracks meander through the Jim Barnett Reserve. The tracks are of varying lengths, but all are easy walking with a few short, steep sections, negotiable for people of most fitness levels.
Tracks are shared with the Waikato River Trails, please be aware of cyclists on the tracks and share with care.
ARAPUNI SWING BRIDGE
Deep in the heart of the Waikato, hidden from the highway by the slot gorge through which the Waikato River flows is a remarkable series of hydroelectric dams.
One of the most spectacular is the Arapuni and its adjacent suspension bridge, which spans the gorge and provides an eagle’s-eye-view of the dam, river, and magnificent forest.
